We launched Geek Scot last year and we’ve had a lot of fun running this site. Unfortunately, there aren’t very many of us and we still have full time jobs and other commitments, this has meant that the regularity of our content has suffered. As such, we’re putting out the request again for volunteer bloggers to join Geek Scot!
We’re really keen for people in all areas of geek and Scotland, so please get in touch if you think you have a story to tell. However, the following topics could really use your help:
The sad fact is, we have wanted to write about topics of feminism for a while, but we feel that it is such a touchy subject right now, that whoever writes about it needs to have a very thick skin. The truth is, writing about feminism comes with a risk of violence and rape threats, constant insults, and people digging through your past internet history for anything that might humiliate you. And it’s not just the writer that can be targeted, often it can be their families and friends too. We need any writer to be aware of the risk of this bullying before they write, it’s disgusting that we even have to say this. As such, you may wish to write under a pen name, it’s entirely up to you.
Not all geeks play games all day long, I know, shocking! We need more game news on our site, we’d love to hear from you if you think you can write regular content on games.
Geek Scot is a generally left wing site, which tends to have bias toward the SNP and other progressive parties such as the Greens and Plaid Cymru. That is not to say we will blindly follow policies that these parties may make, so while we may be biased, we will try to remain balanced in our opinions. That said, this is a blog, individual articles come with their individual writer’s views. If you’d like to rant and rave about politics, or indeed give complete and balanced editorials and coverage of events throughout the political spectrum, do get in touch.
Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual and Trans news in Scotland. Let’s get it covered properly on here!
What kind of geek site would we be without tech? Do get in touch!
Music, radio and television
This side often gets neglected by us. Perhaps something will ring with River City fans in geek culture. Perhaps you want to write about a Scottish Doctor Who. Is there a new math-rock band in Glasgow? A cool tech show on your local radio station? Who knows? If you do, write for us!
How to write for us
The only limits we really have are in quality of writing, so just get in touch, email us at [email protected] with a sample article, if we like it, we’ll set you up with a writer’s account and you can get it published on Geek Scot for the world to see!
